A
MAN OF VISION
Sir Anerood Jugnauth's political career started as far
back as 1963 when he was elected member for Rivière
du Rempart under the Independent Forward Block Banner.
In
March 1964 he became a nominated member of the new Vacoas/Phoenix
Municipal Council following the Local Government Elections.
From
September 7th to 24th 1965 he participated in the Constitutional
Conference in London, leading to the granting of Independence
to Mauritius.
In
1966, Sir Anerood Jugnauth became Junior Minister for
Development in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam's Government.
In November 1966, he was made Minister of Labour but
tendered his resignation the following year.
From
1967 to 1976,
Sir Anerood Jugnauth served in the Crown Law Office.
He was made Senior Crown Counsel in 1970 and resigned
end of September 1971 to join
the Movement Militant Mauricien.
In
1976 he became the President of the MMM and elected
as first member for Rivière du Rempart and served
as Leader of the Opposition from 1976 to 1982.
1982
- 1995 : The Making of Modern Mauritius
From
1982 onwards, Sir Anerood Jugnauth won three General
Elections, created his own party, le Mouvement Socialiste
Militant in 1983. Sir Anerood Jugnauth is rightly referred
to as the father of the Mauritian economical miracle.
He provided the nation with a vision and with the right
agenda for progress and prosperity.
Sir
Anerood Jugnauth will leave a very strong imprint in
the history of Modern Mauritius. He has provided the
country with a strong leadership, with a deep sense
of commitment and a real concern for the improvement
of the welfare of the population. As Prime Minister
from 1982 to 1995 and from 2000 to 2003, he has championed
the cause of the poor and the needy, and the elderly
and has given womenfolk the necessary tools for empowerment.
Today,
the scene is already set for a second economic miracle.
He is paving the way for Mauritius to become a CyberIsland
and the Information Communication Technology as the
fifth pillar of the Mauritian economy.
The
Mouvement Socialiste Militant has now twenty years of
existence and it can take a legitimate pride in having
transformed Mauritius into a modern and sophisticated
economy under the leadership of Sir Anerood Jugnauth.

A LIVING LEGACY
For four decades
in politics and as Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth
has contributed to the revival of Mauritius in immeasurable
abundance. His commitment and insistence to the affairs
of the nation has catalysed major transformations. He
has challenged people of all walks of life to climb
the ladder of success on the path of excellence and
to proceed with confidence. Zero tolerance to drug traffickers
and championing law and order for the safety of our
citizens. He is the defender of dharma, friendship and
multi racial coexistence and all along seeking loyalty,
discipline and patience from one and all. He is the
Innovator in all economic sectors and his vision of
Mauritius being a Cyber island is on to hold a vital
place in the future.
The digitalisation
of photographs relating to the forty years of his political
achievements into large and laminated posters together
with the special website are testimonies of our gratitude
to him. It has not been an easy task in this endeavour
and my special thanks go to Messrs Boopen Doobah, Jubal
Julien and Miss Fabiola Ramsamy and all those who have
helped me in the realization process.
We seize the opportunity
to congratulate Sir Anerood Jugnauth, his team and his
family for the legacy he is leaving to the present and
future Rising generations. We wish all success that
life has much more to offer to him in future
